The FLIR T840 High-Performance Thermal Imaging Camera is equipped with AutoCal™ optics allowing the user to change lenses as necessary: the camera will auto-calibrate to accommodate the new lens. This means that lenses can be shared across the user’s fleet of cameras thereby improving efficiency, practicality and ease of operation. Designed to aid thermography professionals and electric utility technicians/ engineers with identifying faulty components and/or signs of impending failure within electricity plants and/or across power lines. As such they have been designed for both indoor and outdoor applications.
Available with a choice of lenses including a telephoto 6° lens; wide angle 80°; and a FlexView™ dual field of view lens which allows you to switch between telephoto and wide-angle viewing easily. If you would like to watch an in-depth video about the FLIR T-Series, detailing the differences and benefits of each model, including the T840, please see the video section.

As the camera is intended for both indoor and outdoor use, it includes a number of features designed to ensure that this IR imager is able to provide high-quality, crisp, clear thermal images in a majority of environmental and light conditions. To this end, the T840 includes a bright, 4-inch, colour, LCD display and an integrated eyepiece viewfinder, allowing the user to conduct inspections in bright conditions.
Furthermore, the integrated eyepiece viewfinder allows the user to scan and diagnose equipment from a safe distance. Additionally; the 180° rotating lens platform also improves the ease with which hard-to-access components may be investigated. Moreover, this lens platform reduces strain, allowing the operator to use the camera all day without experiencing serious discomfort.
All of the aforementioned components facilitate the user’s ability to check power lines and other power or electrical equipment from a safe distance, from any vantage point, and for prolonged periods of time. It also includes a number of sophisticated thermal imaging capabilities that ensure thermal pictures are detailed and temperature measurements are accurate.
The FLIR T840 has an IR resolution of 464 x 348-pixels and a temperature range of -20°C to 1500°C. It also includes laser-assisted autofocus ensuring that temperature measurements are accurate and thermal images are of the best clarity.
In addition to this,it includes a number of image processing functions also designed to improve image clarity; these include:
Furthermore, it is equipped with a one-touch laser distance meter (allowing the user to determine the accessibility of the component-under-investigation); Wi-Fi connectivity, METERLiNK® compatibility, and GPS functionality. The user is able to stream thermal media to the FLIR Tools® App via Wi-FI, allowing customers and/or colleagues to view findings in real-time; thereby facilitating fast, collaborative decisions.
Additionally, METERLiNK® compatibility allows the user to connect the FLIR T840 to FLIR’s METERLiNK®- enabled clamp meters and multimeters. As a result, images can be embedded with relevant measurement data; footage can also be saved with embedded GPS locations due to the inclusion of GPS functionality.
The thermal camera’s features, functions, folders, menus and settings can be easily navigated via the imager’s intuitive menus and rapid-response touchscreen. The easy-to-use operation system ensures that findings can be organised and documented quickly and simply, thereby improving work efficiency.
The FLIR T840 High-Performance Thermal Imaging Camera is an ergonomic, effective and efficient camera essential to those wishing to avoid costly power outages and plant shutdowns caused by faulty components and is the ideal tool for predictive maintenance applications.
