Advanced dual-channel time domain reflectometer for high-resolution fault location on paired metallic cables, with selectable impedance and extensive auto-diagnostic features.

DESCRIPTION:

The TDR2010 from Megger Group Limited is a field-ready, advanced dual-channel time domain reflectometer engineered for precise fault location, cable length measurement and paired conductor diagnostics across communications, data and metallic cable networks. With a maximum test range up to 20 000 m (20 km) and minimum resolution to 0.1 m, the TDR2010 combines high spatial accuracy with broad applicability across twisted-pair, control, telecom and coaxial cabling.

Designed for both expert and novice users, the unit incorporates dual trace and dual cursor displays, an intuitive backlit 800 × 480 colour LCD, and soft-key navigation with multiple adjustable colour palettes to optimise visibility in variable light conditions. Selectable output impedances (25 , 50 , 75 , 100 and 125 ) and an adjustable velocity factor (0.20 – 0.99) ensure accurate calibration to diverse cable types without external matching hardware.

Automatic functions include Auto Setup and AutoFind, which dynamically adjust pulse width, gain and range to expedite fault detection, while manual override supports fine-tuning for challenging fault signatures. The instrument’s fast 2 ns pulse rise time enhances near-end fault visibility, and built-in Trace Tagging allows alphanumeric identification of up to 100 saved traces, facilitating systematic documentation during extended testing campaigns.

Internal memory enables trace storage and on-screen comparison, with USB connectivity and included TraceXpert software supporting PC download, analysis and reporting. The TDR2010’s rugged polymer case meets IP54 environmental protection for field use, and a rechargeable Li-ion battery typically provides up to 12 hours of operation on a single charge. Safety is reinforced by compliance with IEC protective standards for live circuit connection and handling.

Applications encompass cable fault location (opens, shorts, impedance discontinuities), integrity verification, network commissioning, preventative maintenance, and length metrology across infrastructure, utility, telecom and industrial environments.
