Dualchannel time domain reflectometer with selectable impedance and up to 20km range for fault location and cable integrity testing on metallic paired conductors.

DESCRIPTION:

The Megger TDR2000/3 Dual Channel Time Domain Reflectometer from Megger Group Limited is a fieldoriented, highresolution diagnostic platform engineered for precise cable fault location and integrity assessment across communications, control and infrastructure metallic paired cables. With a maximum test range up to 20 000 m (20 km)and minimum resolution to 0.1 m, the TDR2000/3 supports both shortrun diagnostics and longdistance infrastructure evaluation, with accuracy typically within ±1 % of range subject to correct velocity factor calibration.

Selectable output impedances (25, 50, 75, 100, 125 ohm) and an adjustable velocity factor (0.20 – 0.99) allow direct testing and calibration to diverse cable types without external matching accessories, streamlining field setup across telecom, lighting, security, instrumentation and pilotpair cabling. The instrument’s typical 2 ns pulse rise enhances nearend event discrimination while automatic impedance matching and gain functions optimise trace quality across varied cable conditions.

The TDR2000/3 incorporates an 800 × 480 pixel backlit colour LCD with multiple selectable colour schemes and adjustable backlight for clear trace interpretation in challenging lighting environments. Dual trace and dual cursor capability facilitate simultaneous comparison between channels, while onboard storage for up to 100 saved traces, USB data export and included TraceXpert PC software support systematic documentation and reporting workflows.

Automatic functions such as Auto setup, AutoFind and Auto selection assist rapid configuration of pulse width, gain and impedance, reducing setup time for routine testing; manual override remains available for expert tuning on complex fault signatures. Integrated power blocking and rugged IP54 environmental protection ensure suitability for everyday field use. Typical runtime from the Liion rechargeable battery is around 12 hours, supporting extended test campaigns without frequent recharging.

Applications for the TDR2000/3 include continuity verification, open and short fault location, impedance discontinuity detection, cable length measurement, installation commissioning, infrastructure maintenance, and preventative diagnostics on telecom, data and control networks.
